In a press release last week tech giant Microsoft have announced they are set to acquire job based social network LinkedIn.

It’s a huge deal with Microsoft paying US $26.2 billion to make the deal happen. The announced makes clear that LinkedIn will retain the same brand, identity and independence, with the CEO Jeff Weiner remaining in the position and reporting directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

It’s certainly an intriguing acquisition and it will be interesting to keep on eye on what Microsoft has planned for LinkedIn. With Microsoft’s popular productivity and work based suite of products such as Office 365, and the move towards cloud based services there are certainly some interesting ways that Microsoft can integrate LinkedIn with their existing products and services, if they chose to go that route.
